Useful information before coming
Pavlodar is a city in northeastern Kazakhstan and the capital of Pavlodar Region. It is located 450 km northeast of the national capital Astana, and 405 km southeast of the Russian city of Omsk along the Irtysh River. As of 2010, the city has a population of 331,710. The population of Pavlodar is composed predominantly of ethnic Russians and Kazakhs with significant Ukrainian, German and Tatar minorities.
Climate
Pavlodar has a temperate continental climate with long, cold winters and hot summers. The average temperature in January is −15.8 °C (4 °F) with absolute observed lows reaching −45 °C (−49 °F) to −47 °C (−53 °F). In July the temperature averages 21.5 °C (71 °F). Yearly precipitation amounts to 303 mm (12 in).
The only major river, the Irtysh, flows from southeast to northwest for approximately 500 km. It has many branches, oxbow lakes, and islands. Originating in the level upland area, the Tundyk, Ashchisu, Shiderty, Olenty, and other rivers flow not into the Irtysh but into drainless lakes. The Irtysh-Karaganda Canal has been constructed from the Irtysh River, and several dams and reservoirs have been built on the canal. The region has many lakes, primarily saltwater ones: Lakes Seletyteniz, Kyzylkak, Zhalauly, Shureksor, Karasor, Zhamantuz, and Kalkaman in the left-bank region of the Irtysh, and Lakes Maraldy, Moildy, and Bol’shoi Azhbulat in the right-bank region.
Industry
Pavlodar is a large industrial, economic and cultural center of Kazakhstan. In Pavlodar there are such plants as: metallurgic plants producing steel and seamless pipes, mostly for export, oil-processing plants, plant producing electrical, electronic and optical equipment as well as plants of processing industry. The region is also the site of major gold and silver deposits. It generates about 40% of total electricity of Kazakhstan.
Culture
Pavlodar is recognized centre of culture and art of northern Kazakhstan. Pavlodar people sacred preserve monuments of history and cultures of the people. The museums, exhibition, presentation of cultural achievement here are very popular and are visited. The city has a rich history and old cultural traditions. Pavlodar Prirtyshye is Native land of the known figures of a science, culture and art. Kanysh Satpaew, Grigory Potanin, Alkei Margulan, Sultanmahmut Toraigyrow, Shapyk Shokin, Ghumat Shanin, Maschur Ghusup Kopeew, Dihan Abilew, Shaken Aimanow, Gharylgapberdy, Ghayau Musa, Isa Baysakow, Sabit Donentaew, P.
