"Sociology and Political science" Department

History of the department 

Sociology and Political Science Department’s activity is possible due the high quality specialists: candidates of sciences, doctors of sciences, masters and senior lecturers. All these people have a rich experience in scientific and teaching activity that they accumulated during the establishment and development of the department.

The department became independent in June 2008 as a result of reorganization of three departments: Domestic History Department, Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science Department and Archeology, Ethnology and Ethnography Department.

From 2004 the Department began training students in the specialty 050502 – “Political science”, and from 2006 – also in the specialty 050501 - “Sociology”. At the same time the Department was qualified for training Masters of Sociology and Political Science.

Today at full-time tuition are taught: 44 undergraduate students and 10 master students of sociology and political science directions. 17 students of full-time tuition are educated by means of state grants. The Department has the right and has been qualified for training students of postal tuition on the basis of comprehensive school or for training university graduates a second professional education.

Since 2006 students, lecturers and masters of the department have had a chance to improve their skill through attending special courses of outstanding political scientists of Kazakhstan in the summer school placed in “Bayantau” recreation area.

There is an international communications with the department of political science and national history of the Russian Peoples' Friendship University (Moscow).

The Department faculty cooperate with other universities of Kazakhstan, such as Philosophy and Political Science Institute of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ministry of Education and Science, the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Abay Kazakh National Teachers’ Training University, the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, East Kazakhstan State University, the Ye. Buketov Karaganda State University and the Shakarim Semipalatinsk State University.

In the course of training students of the Department spend their practical training at Pavlodar oblast Department of Internal Policy, Akimat, specialized secondary educational institutions, governmental institutions and at the Regional Centre for Political Researches of Pavlodar State University named after S. Toraigyrov. The contract on practice passage is concluded at the Kazakh institute of strategic researches at President of RK. The students who have comleted their course of study at the University now work at public institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Afffairs, Department of Internal Policy, Pavlodar oblast Akimat, and so on.

The Department works in strict compliance with the State Educational Standards for the specialties “Political science” and “Sociology”. The specialties have a full support through the standard and work curriculums, work educational programmes of the subjects approved by the Academic Council of PSU.

The main aim of the Department is to train students knowing the bases of the theory and methodology of political science and sociology, able to conduct political and sociological researches, to analyze political processes in the world and in the Republic, having a systemic knowledge of world-view type and having skill in research scientific work. The Department every year organizes methodological seminars for the purpose of upgrading educational methodology.

Arrangement of educational work

Educational work is carried out continuously and in correspondence with the University and the Faculty plan, methodology and content of educational events, as the Department is responsible for the full course training of its graduates.

Every group supervised by the Department has its own adviser and curator out of the faculty, who constantly carry out educational and study-organizational  work with their groups.

Teachers and asset groups held academic debates, round tables are organized, applied policy research, became traditional events such as a dedication to the students, seeing the graduates, health days, meeting with interesting people, etc. Students of political science are active participants of debate clubs, the philosophy club “Aikone”. They participate in the amateur talent societies, are members of Pavlodar Students’ Alliance, heads of the Faculty and the Department on the Self Government Day that are held each term.
