History of the department 

The Department of Philosophy, Social and Human Disciplines was established on September 1, 2014, as a result of the reorganization of two departments of the Faculty of History and Law, the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies and the Department of Sociology and Political Science. G.B. Irenov, Director of the Regional Center for Political Studies, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, was the Head of the Department of Sociology and Political Science from 2008 and 2013. I.A. Kaliyev, Candidate of Political Sciences, Professor, was in charge of the same department in 2013-2014. G.G. Akhmetova, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, was Head of the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies from 2008 to 2014. In 2014, she was appointed Head of the Department of Philosophy, Social and Human Disciplines.

The activity of the Department is aimed at:

- encouraging self-improvement and self-development among students; teaching the skills of independent learning throughout their active life;

- mastering the humanitarian culture, culture of thinking, ethical and legal standards determining attitudes to the person, society, nature and the world as a whole;

- educating students who know the basic theories and concepts of modern cultures of the East and the West, the problems of modern Kazakh philosophy, culture and religion, and their role in the modern integration processes, and unified conceptual approaches to the study of the history of political systems; have knowledge in the field of ideology and research skills.

The Department offers 2 Bachelor's degree programs: 5B020400 Culturology and 5В050200 Political Science (full-time studies, 2nd degree, distance learning), 4 Master's degree programs: 6M020400 Culturology, 6M020100 Philosophy, 6M050200 Political Science, and 6M050100 Sociology.

The Department currently has 55 undergraduate students majoring in Culturology and Political Science and 10 Master's degree students majoring in Culturology, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology. There are also 6 part-time students in 5В020400 Culturology and 5В050200 Political Science who study using the distance learning technology.
