History of the Department
Based on the decision made by the Academic Council of the University on August 26, 2002, the Department of Vocational Education and Engineering Graphics was established within the Institute of Construction, Transport and Mechanical Engineering on September 1, 2002. It was established after reorganization and transition of the disciplines previously taught at the Department of Civil and Industrial Construction and Department of Mechanics of Solids. The Department of Vocational Education and Engineering Graphics offered the following programs: 032040 Labor Technology and Entrepreneurship; 031340 Vocational Education (by Industry), 554230 Technology of Food Products. Kapar Shakimovich Aryngazin was appointed Head of the Department. Because of the separation of Pavlodar State Pedagogical Institute from PSU in 2004, a number of programs had to be transferred from PSU to PPI (e.g. 032040 Technology of Labor and Entrepreneurship and 031340 Vocational Education) or vice versa (e.g. 551730 Life Safety). The Department of Vocational Education and Engineering Graphics was renamed to the Department of Technology of Food Products and Environmental Protection. In 2010, it was renamed again, this time to the Department of Life Safety and Environmental Protection. The Department got its current name (Department of Vocational Education and Environmental Protection) in 2013.
The Department offers the following programs: 5В073100 Life Safety and Environmental Protection (Bachelor's degree program); 6М073100 Life Safety and Environmental Protection, 6М072100 “Chemical technology of organic substances” (LSEP specialization in petrochem.), 6М070900 – “Metallurgy” (LSEP specialization in metallurgy) (Master's degree program); 5В012000 Vocational Education (Bachelor's degree program).
Branches of the Department were established at Neftekhim LTD Company LLP (2010), the Department for Emergency Management in Pavlodar (2012), and Talapker-PV LLP (2013).
The Department of Vocational Education and Environmental Protection is the leading educational, research and methodological center for training highly-qualified specialists (Bachelors and Masters) for various sectors of the national economy.
The Department is involved in international cooperation with other education institutions and organizations, e.g. Moscow State University of Food Production, Research and Educational Institute of Innovative Technologies for Long-term Storage of Goods, Russian State University of Trade and Economics, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Lund University (Lund, Sweden), Razzakov Kyrgyz State University of Technology (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), Mongolian State University.
The Department carries out student exchange with Karaganda State Technical University, Shakarim Semipalatinsk State University, M.Auezov South Kazakhstan State University, Abai Myrzakhmetov Kokshetau University under the Academic Mobility program.

Preliminary defense of the dissertation took place during the extended session of the Department of Bakeries Technology of Almaty Technological University on March 25, 2010. The dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Engineering Sciences entitled “Scientific Foundations of Technological Design of Grain Silos Using Information Systems” was recommended for defense in 05.18.01 Processing, Storage and Reprocessing Technology for Grain, Leguminous, Cereals Products, Lawn-and-Garden and Viticulture Output at dissertation council D14.61.17 of ATU.
