History of the Department

The Department of Zootechnology, Genetics and Selective Breeding was established at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at the initiative of S. Toraighyrov PSU Rector, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Ye.M. Aryn in July 2010.

The Department of Zootechnology, Genetics and Selective Breeding offers a Bachelor's degree program in 5B080200 Live-stock Products Production Technology, as well as a Master's degree program.

Total number of students is 179, including:

16.5% of them study on a contractual basis, while 83.5% of students are holders of state educational grants. 11 students are enrolled in a part-time mode.

   

 

Head of the Department

Nadezhda Bakayevna Burambayeva, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Professor.

N.B. Buranbayeva defended her Candidate's dissertation in 060201 Breeding, Selection, Genetics and Reproduction of Farm Animals.

Scientific works and achievements:

1. Co-author of the Kazakh fat-rumped medium-wool sheep breed (interbreed type: Bayys), order 33 dated March 14, 1994.

2. Supervisor of the funded research project entitled “Development of a Scientifically Grounded Methods of Selection Ensuring Improvement of the Wool and Shipskin Quality in the North-East Region of Kazakhstan” in 2000-2005.

3. The beneficiary of the funded research project entitled “Creating the Gene Pool of Fine-wool Sheep, and Further Improvement of Their Breeding and Productive Qualities at Zengi-Baba-Salmen LLP in the Urzhar area of the East Kazakhstan Region” in 2009-2011.

4. A state-funded research project from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “Development and Implementation of the Selection and Technological Methods of Increasing the Competitiveness of Meat Productivity of Sheep of the Domestic Mutton (Yedilbay, Saryarka, Kazakh Fat-rumped Coarse-wool and Kazakh Fat-rumped Medium-wool) Breeds” for 2011-2014.

5. Kaz Agroinnovatsiya project: “Improving the Genetic Potential of Sheep (Fine-wool, Semifine-wool and Mutton Breeds) and She-goats with the Use of Effective Methods and Techniques of Selection, Reproduction, Technology of Keeping and Feeding” for 2012-2014.

Regional training at the Asian Regional Center, the Kingdom of Thailand (2009).

Professional Development Course in Germany (Deula-Nienburg): Organization of Practical Training of Students and Teachers of Higher Educational Institutions in Agriculture.

Her overall scientific and pedagogical experience amounts to 20 years.

 

Students during the learning process

 

Social life of students

Students of the department are actively involved in cultural events held by the University. They annually participate in celebration of the national holiday Nauryz Meyramy, competitions for best national ceremony where they usually take the 2nd or 3rd places. Our students also won the title of the Best Student Group and were awarded a free trip to Astana.

In 2013, the students of the MShOOT-301 group Kuanysh Mazhitov won the World Championship in Pankration.
