History of the Department
The Department of Journalism offers the following Bachelor's degree programs 050504 Journalism, 5B050400 Journalism and 5B091000 Library Science.
These programs have been available since 2001.
Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor K.M. Aldabergenov and Senior Lecturers K.S. Iskakov and B.T. Batkeyeva were among the founders of the Department.
The Department focuses on training journalists with extensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The Department has a long history of successful cooperation with some of the regional newspapers (Saryarka Samaly and Zvezda Priirtyshya) and the regional branch of Kazakhstan-Pavlodar (the TV and radio company).

According to the results of the state certification held in 2013, the Department of Journalism of S. Toraighyrov PSU was ranked 2nd in the Republic.
In 2009, Associate Professor Zh.B. Ibrayeva won a state grant. In 2010, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor K.M. Aldabergenov won a state grant from the MES of RK and the title of the Best HEI Lecturer.
In 2010, Senior Lecturer Zh.I. Mananbayev defended his Candidate's dissertation entitled “Pavlodar Region's Socioeconomic Development Trends (1938-2006)”.
Training sessions are conducted on radio and television, in newspapers, which gives students an opportunity to immerse in the professional environment, learn the basics of the profession in practice. The Department's academic staff use interactive teaching methods, such as business games, round tables and discussions.
Students of the Department successfully combine their studies with participation in various activities on the national and international levels:
- in 2010, K.Ye. Tanabasov, a 3rd-year student of the Department, won the main prize at the Golden Sable international competition (Novosibirsk) in the Friendship Bridge category (supervisor: Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor R.D. Ashimbetova);
- later, in December 2010, he won a scholarship from the Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan (Almaty) in the Journalism category;
- K.Ye. Tanabas and D. Tasova are holders of the presidential scholarship. Students of the Department of Journalism take an active part in various professional events of national and international levels: D.Sh. Zhumanova took courses in Analytical Journalism and Business and Economic Journalism held by Desenta PF, participated in the ХХХVІІ Conference on Integration of Education and Science As a Step into the Future (3rd prize); Ye.V. Garkava took a training course in Problems of Media Coverage held by MediaNet, training course in the Role of Mass Media in Overcoming Discrimination of HIV. Cooperation has been established with a number of periodicals, students have internships in the leading national and Russian mass media entities.
