History of the Department
The Department of Heat Power Engineering is one of the first departments of the University. It was established in 1974 to provide highly-qualified specialists for the booming energy sector of the region. Over the years of its existence, it has trained many specialists who now work all over the former USSR - from the Baltic Power Plant in the west to the Zeya hydroelectric station in the Far East.
The graduates of the Department are in demand at large energy and industrial companies of the region.

Achievements of the Department
Members of the Department won a grant for the project “Research and Development of Thermal Regimes for Boilers of Low and Average Performance with the Aim of Improving Energy Efficiency” funded by the MES for 2013-2015.
Students from TE-402 V.N. Serookaya and V.A. Serebryakov won the Youth Design Bureau regional competition.
Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Ye.V. Prikhodko was the winner of the Best University Lecturer competition in 2013.
Education
Objectives:
- to teach the right attitude to study and work;
- to hold competitions, thematic events, meetings, lectures, seminars, and roundtable conferences aimed at discussion of the problems of morality and ethics, development of civic engagement of youth, and teaching principles of mutual respect and patriotism;
- to strengthen effort to prevent crime and religious extremism among students, enhance the role of student organizations in the management of the University.
